Mercure Hotel

The fresh, tender bamboo shoots were a real treat. Since leaving, I haven't found any as fresh and tender elsewhere. There's an all-day dining restaurant downstairs in the lobby, handy if the weather turns bad and you don't want to go out. Breakfast is simple, with freshly cooked noodles and wontons, and the lobby always has coffee machines and healthy hot drinks. This Holiday Inn Express is close to Namdaemun, within walking distance of the shuttle buses, and on the main road. I didn't notice noise from tourists in the transfer area or secondhand smoke. The hotel has only just opened in 2026/03. The rooms are clean and bright, and there's self-service laundry. I've stayed in Holiday Inn Express suites in several places, and I love Holiday Inn Express China. If there are suites available, IHG Platinum members can get an upgrade. A bathtub would make the room perfect, though I don't think I've ever seen a Holiday Inn Express with one. The official website currently has a 15% discount on bookings with points. I only spotted it after I got back, so I missed out. Huangshan Scenic Area is starting to enter peak season too, with huge crowds. If I visit again, this will still be my first choice.
