Hongcun and Xidi are close by, and the countryside setting is lovely. Still, staying in either village might be better if you want to see more, especially in the evening or early morning, away from the day-trip crowds. The place is a stylish take on the Ming dynasty, with modern bathrooms and art. Breakfast was generous, though the coffee wasn't great. The timber floors creaked, and cleanliness could have been better. Hot water took a while, and the shower doors didn't shut tightly.
