There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the old town. It’s one of China’s four major ancient cities and an important historical and cultural town, with Han-style architecture from the Ming (AD 1368-1644) and Qing (AD 1644-1911) dynasties.

There’s plenty to browse, eat, do, and buy inside the old city walls. Local crafts range from wine to bamboo cups, which are carved while you watch. The museum covers the area from the Neolithic period to the present, and many signs are in both English and Chinese.

The town has lots of places to see, great food, and an old wall that helps preserve its history, while things inside the walls still feel modern. It’s a lovely place to visit, so go if you get the chance. Keep an eye on the weather, though. The town is in a valley and the river can flood.
