The views are fantastic, and the hotel makes a practical base for hiking, with the Taiping Cableway giving access to Huang Shan. Getting there still means a 45-minute walk to what feels more like a hostel. Rooms are basic and older, but clean, and can sleep up to 10 people. Food and drinks cost a lot, though everything has to be carried up. A good spot for sunrise and sunset, but I wouldn’t go if the forecast is bad.

I only ate here. The food was okay.
The view made the stay special, with a beautiful sunset and a sea of clouds spread out below. I was worn out after climbing hundreds of steps to Lanyue Tower, and had expected very little since I couldn’t find useful information beforehand. The room was small, but clean, comfortable, and nicely furnished. I’m grateful to the craftspeople who built such a lovely place. We stayed at Lanyue Tower.
Breakfast was simple, just porridge, a steamed bun, and an egg, but enough to fill me up. The overnight stay was okay and generally clean, though the disinfectant smell was really strong. The room felt old. A bottle of mineral water cost 10 RMB, which seemed reasonable given how hard the porters work carrying supplies up.
I showed up at Huangshan Mountain Lodge without a booking, and the other hotels had no rooms left. I spent a day in a 10-person bunk for 280 yuan. At least I could get out of the cold and take a hot shower.
