The steam room and sauna helped make up for a pool that was a little disappointing. I also found the breakfast better than expected, with both Asian and Western choices. My room faced the river, and the view was lovely; the room itself was up to a good standard too. Staff service and attention were top-notch, and the hotel was exceptional. I'd probably stay here again if I come back to Huizhou.

If you're planning to use the pool on the hotel's 30th floor, be aware they require a cap. The lifeguard was squatting with his back to the pool, which seemed odd.

The staff were friendly, hardworking, and polite throughout. David at the concierge desk was especially helpful. He's local and clearly loves his work, and his knowledge of Huizhou's attractions impressed me. Thanks for fitting in suggestions for places to visit during our short 1.5 days there. We ate at Ou Sheng Restaurant, about a 10-minute walk away. Chicken, pig stomach, soup, and corn juice came to just RMB200, which felt like a bargain, and the food was tasty. For dinner we took a cab about 20 minutes to Zhuyuan Farmhouse Restaurant. The food was delicious, especially the soup cooked over a real fire. They also had an Indian food cart selling banana pancakes. Odd, but the pancakes were especially good after we filled up on three tasty farm-style dishes. The hotel room was spacious, with stunning views of the west lake. I believe it's the highest hotel in huizhou. The bathroom was impressive, though I didn't get a chance to use the bathtub. Breakfast had a huge buffet selection, plus egg and juice counters. The Executive Lounge had fantastic views, and wifi was free. There wasn't much to shop for or see right around the hotel, but a cab gets you to places. Huizhou West Lake was about 20 minutes away by cab. It was quite windy when we went, so bring a wrap. You could easily spend two hours walking there. Gaobang Mountain is a must-see park. You can bike up and down, or, if you're up for the exercise, apparently walk up, around the lake (18km), and back down. We hiked up and down, but skipped the lake route because it was getting late and the park had become quite dark. Stayed in December 2015, traveled as a couple.

I've stayed here twice, and both times I had a bad experience with the desk staff handling basic services unprofessionally. Don't expect courtesy.
