Man Lai Wah Resort

This is a family-run place that I’ve returned to. The owner is a friendly local who lives nearby and is very helpful. It’s clean, like a well-kept home, and the owner takes pride in the property. You’ll notice the HVAC upgrades, room finishes, and good-quality amenities. Don’t expect a fancy resort, though. You get what you pay for. It’s very close to the pier, which helps if you have luggage. The streets on Lamma Island are narrow, and carrying bags down them can be difficult when hundreds of people are getting off the ferry at Yung Shue Wan at once. The owner prefers cash; it isn’t a scam, just how locals on Lamma do business.

I complained to the hotel about the street musicians, and the police politely asked them to leave. The musicians were just playing beautiful music and making passers-by happy, and I respect them for it.

You only have a short walk to the ferry pier, a big plus on Lamma Island. The rooms have lovely sea views and balconies, and there’s a nice gallery where you can sit outside and listen to the waves. The hotel is very clean, well managed, and has a friendly atmosphere. It also feels very safe, with CCTV monitoring, though that isn’t really necessary.
