A good hotel with a welcoming host. It’s a bit off the old town’s main street, which makes it really quiet.

The bathroom was a bit dirty, and the shower had no tray. Still, the owner was friendly, and the hotel is well located, quiet, and affordable. I also liked the architecture, which recreates the look of a typical Chinese house from that period.

For €15-€20, this is a pretty good stay. The old residence has a medieval look, almost like you might see “ninjas” jumping from roof to roof. It’s fairly clean, with a huge bed that could belong in an empress’s room. It’s inside the fortifications, a few hundred meters from the north gate and a little away from the main road, so it’s peaceful. The new train station is far away, though. You’ll need a bus, which is easy and costs 1 yuan, or a taxi. The Wi-Fi worked well, even with a VPN.
