I had planned to stay three days, but cut it down to one after this experience. The room smelled strongly of smoke as soon as I walked in. I asked about moving, but was told the hotel was full; they brought an air purifier, though it didn't help, and the smell was nauseating all night. For an international hotel, letting guests smoke in a room is unacceptable. I also didn't see a clear no-smoking sign, and the hotel seemed not to enforce the rule. That lack of enforcement, along with guests ignoring the ban, contributes to the problem. I felt the smoking reflected poor manners and a lack of respect, and worried that foreign visitors might see this as a disgrace to Chinese people. Is this really a Hilton, and is it meant to be non-smoking? The bathroom had no foot mat, and after showering I found water had overflowed into the toilet area. That added to my disappointment. Breakfast had plenty of choices, but the food was bland and ordinary, and I didn't find anything delicious. Still, with a weekend stay costing over 2000 NTD and breakfast included, I decided to accept it and not be too demanding.
