First Inn

The price and location make it worthwhile. Everything was clean and worked, though the service and help could have been better, and the building and elevator felt a bit eerie. Check that the air conditioning, fan, water heater, towels, and sheets are all in order before settling in. Downstairs you can find water, food, phone SIM cards, currency exchange, and fruit. The friendly men will install the SIM for you. There are also pickpockets around, so stay alert. Go with confidence, but be ready to navigate a maze: there are several hotels in the building.

I knew security might be poor because the hotel is inside Chungking Mansions, so I'm not reviewing that. The service was terrible in every other way. Staff would leave guests waiting for hours, and nobody emailed me to say reception was somewhere else. I spent an hour waiting in a dim corridor. Then, after check-in, my key card didn't work, so I had to wait again while they sorted it out.
