iclub Mong Kok Hotel

I’d stay here again :) The level 10 view was lovely, and the morning coffee and sweets on the open terrace at level 2 were a nice bonus. The hotel was clean, with good amenities and water pressure. In Mong Kok, it’s close to the MTR, markets, shops, places to eat, and the airport bus. There’s also a fresh fruit and vegetable market nearby where you can get a taste of Hong Kong.

The room’s high ceiling and huge windows brought in plenty of daylight, and the white decor made it feel brighter and more open. Rooms are small, as you’d expect in a city hotel, but those design touches help. Cleaning and upkeep were a letdown. There were stains and small damages, and the general lack of maintenance undercut the room’s nice features. Service was average, too. Staff weren’t unfriendly, but check-in and check-out felt purely functional, without much warmth or attention. The IC Hotel Mong Kok is very well located for public transport, shopping and dining, making it a handy base for exploring Mong Kok. Still, the mediocre service and poor care of the rooms detract from a strong location.

The main drawback for me was the lack of robe hooks. After a shower, there’s nowhere to hang wet towels, and there are no complimentary drinks in the room. The shower pressure was great, though. The morning coffee and pastry on the 2nd floor are free, but that area gets packed. It’s a newer hotel in Mongkok, not far from the metro stations, and the rooms feel more modern than other nearby hotels in the same class. The airport bus service, 21A, stops two blocks away, which is quite convenient at HK$ 35 a person. The hotel seems to cater mostly to international travellers rather than China travellers.

The room cleaners were lovely, always greeting us or returning our greetings, and they kindly brought an extra towel or toothbrush when we asked. The location was good too, with short walks to train stations, bus stops, restaurants and shops. Breakfast was free, but the choice was very limited: supermarket-quality croissants, small dinner rolls and coffee. The room itself was clean but small, with barely enough space to open our larger suitcases. We stayed two weeks, and the front desk staff never once greeted us or even acknowledged us when we came and went. They seemed focused on their screens, phones or conversations, and I never saw them get up or look our way. I’d understand when they were helping other guests, but that wasn’t what was happening. The price wasn’t cheap compared with other hotels when we booked, so I expected some basic professionalism. No red carpet needed, just a nod when guests make an effort to greet you. We won’t be back.
