New Hoover Hostel

I was unsure about Chungking Mansion after reading so many negative reviews, and spent months comparing hotels online and checking for the things I wanted, especially a private bathroom. After staying 9 days and 8 nights, I found New Hoover Hostel on the 3rd floor of Block E, Chungking Mansion, a really convenient fit. The MTR, Central and nearby attractions were all easy to reach. Brother Sunny was kind and friendly, always greeting us with a smile and offering useful tips for our daily plans. Our room was spacious enough for a couple, with bedsheets and pillows. They offered to change them, but we preferred to do it ourselves. It had a private bathroom with a heated shower, mirror and shampoo, though you’ll need your own soap. There’s no bidet, but free tissue is provided. The toilet flushed fine, the shower worked well, and we never ran out of water. There’s a small refrigerator in the room, plus split air conditioning that worked well and kept it cool. A microwave, butane stove and heater are available in the lobby if you want to cook. I especially liked how quiet it was after a long day out. The Block E elevator was less crowded than the ones in Blocks A, B or C. It felt affordable, safe and clean, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable Hong Kong stay.
