I had a great stay and felt safe. Nobody in the area bothered me, and there are cameras throughout. I liked seeing different cultures mixing, too. For what I paid, I got a private, clean room at a price I couldn't find elsewhere. It had a TV, hair dryer, towel, slippers, toothbrush and paste, air conditioning, a private bathroom, and a really comfortable bed. There’s a fridge and coffee available for free, and you need a security key for both your room and the main entrance. The harbor is a two-minute walk away, with a bus, metro, and supermarket one minute away. The staff were kind and helpful, checking whether I wanted the room cleaned or needed a fresh towel. Loved it here, and I’ll definitely come back. Best stay I’ve had in Hong Kong!

For the price, I was fine with it. I stayed four days and three nights, and nothing bad happened. The walls were solid, so noise wasn’t an issue, and the soft bed and pillows were nice. We even got a free upgrade to a bigger room, though it still felt like another coffin. That’s Hong Kong, I get it. There’s plenty around, but the building has a strong smell from all the Indian food, which you can’t really avoid. It’s very old, too, so be prepared for that. The room itself is tiny, about the size of a coffin, and showering over the toilet in a two-square-meter space felt weird, even for me as an Asian. There might also be a local guest dropping by to say hello sometimes, a cockroach. One thing that confused me was having to pay a 10% service charge at reception.

The location worked really well for a short budget stay in Hong Kong. Chungking Mansion is on the 11th floor in TsimShaTsui, with easy access to the train station, Avenue of Stars, Museum of Fine Arts, Space Museum, and more. We had a twin room that felt just right to me. The sheets were clean and there was no bad smell. The staff were friendly, and they even lent us a portable luggage scale so we could check our bags before leaving.

Chungking Mansion works if all you need is somewhere to sleep for the night. There are lots of temporary accommodation owners, so choose the location and floor you want carefully. The two elevators serve different floors, so make sure you know which level your booking is on.
