Stanford Hotel

The room was good and the bed comfortable. Breakfast came with our booking and had a decent range, though it didn't match what higher-end hotels offer. The location is hard to beat, close to Mong Kok station, the ladies markets, sneakers street and technology street. Plenty of restaurants and 711s are nearby too.

We had just stayed at Stanford Myeongdong, Seoul with our group of four families over Christmas and New Year and were happy there. At Stanford Mongkok, the lobby looked newer and better than the rooms, which were smaller. The location is great, near everything but not too crowded. The toilet was a little hard to stop from running after each flush. I think they forgot to give us bottled water, so we bought some on the way back to the room. Edit: I checked with the front desk and they said bottled water isn't provided, really? Even motels have given complimentary bottles during my last 15 years of travel. Other hotels have an in-room water filter or a shared unit on each floor. The front desk wasn't helpful when I was looking for FedEx. I won't stay again, and I have several friends who stayed at other hotels in different areas of Hong Kong.

I visited in December with my father, and prices definitely seemed about double that month. The clean lobby and nice staff were good, and housekeeping was great. Some days I told them not to turn down our room, and they respected that. The rooms could use updating, though. They're small, and with two large suitcases we had to leave them on the floor by the seating area. There wasn't even a luggage rack, and with more than two big cases there'd be nowhere to walk. The narrow bathroom was clean. The two twin-sized beds sat close together with only a small nightstand between them, so bring earplugs if the person you're with snores. The TV was a decent size, maybe 36 inches, and there were two USB adapters by the table and chairs, but no outlets by the bed. There's no bottled water, but two 7/11 stores are nearby, one about a block away and another around 700 feet away. There are also two pharmacies close by. The breakfast buffet was just alright, not much selection, and I didn't like the coffee. We paid for it, but I wish we'd skipped it since there are lots of restaurants, dessert spots and specialty drink shops within walking distance. The hotel is walkable to many restaurants and stores, the lady market, the MTR, Nathan Rd and the huge Langham Shopping Mall on Argyle street, I believe. It's one or two blocks away from the heaviest foot traffic, so it's quieter and you don't have to push through crowds by the lobby. Sunshine Laundry Convenience Store ( Shop 67 ) Sunlight Laundry Convenience Store 67Branch is only about one and a half blocks away and was a lifesaver. It has just three or four washers and dryers. You can pay with an octopus card, or I think they accept credit cards too. I think it costs $40-$50 HKD, and detergent is dispensed automatically. It was handy for undergarments, dirty jeans and socks. For Luckin coffee, you need the app or Alipay HK app to get the bigger discounts. I couldn't use them because they require a HK number, which bummed me out since I love their coffee. There's a location on Nathan Rd and Argyle Rd. ChaTraMue is three or four blocks away, and I wish I'd found it sooner. Their coffee latte with boba was SO GOOD! Zoff has great frames, and they can check your eyes and fit glasses in 30 minutes to an hour. To avoid dragging my suitcase through the crowds, I called an Uber, which was very reasonable. I'd recommend the hotel for its price and convenience, and would stay again.

Everything was spotless and felt really modern, and the rooms were seriously spacious. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, even putting us on a higher floor near our kids. We'll definitely come back for another stay.
