The Kimberley Hotel

We were three, my parents and me, in a newly renovated suite with a bedroom and a separate living and dining space. The layout worked well: they slept in the bedroom, while I took the sofa, which turned out to be comfortable and a good fit. We could open three large suitcases and still get around the spacious room. The bathroom had a separate tub and shower, and we were allowed to check in early when we arrived around noon, which made things easier. Getting around and finding food was simple. The hotel is near the airport bus stop, and across the street there’s a supermarket, a famous goose restaurant, and a Hong Kong café with very good bread. There’s a 7-Eleven nearby too. Check-in and checkout were quick and easy. The nearest train station is about a seven-minute walk, which could be a little inconvenient for some. The mini fridge in our room didn’t work. Maintenance came to look at it but couldn’t fix it while we were there. The hotel doesn’t provide free bottled water or toothbrushes because of Hong Kong’s rules on reducing plastic use. That was fine for us, since we could buy what we needed at the supermarket across the street. We had a pleasant stay and appreciated the room, location, and smooth service.

We chose the largest family room, and the service from the staff was attentive, kind, and professional. Even with a communication barrier, the cleaning team did their best to help. But the room had bed bugs and pet lice, which made it unacceptable. I appreciated the cleaners’ efforts, but the hygiene needs to be addressed so guests can feel safe and comfortable.

For Hong Kong, Hotel Kimberly was a reasonably priced, basic place for my family and me to spend three nights. It’s about a five-minute walk from TST MTR, and check-in was easy. The rooms were fairly clean, the air conditioning worked well, the shower had good pressure, and the beds were comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep. Our room was small, though. We had to shift some furniture to open all our suitcases, and even then the space felt tight. There’s a shared lobby where guests can sit or eat takeaway food. The main draw for me was the location. Restaurants and shops are all around, and convenience stores, a supermarket, the MTR, and a bus station are close by. Knutsford Terrace, with its restaurants and bars, is nearby too. Chungking Mansion, Don Quijote TST, Kowloon Park, and Avenue of Stars are within walking distance. This is a very basic hotel, not a luxury stay, but it’s a budget option with some comfort and the reassurance of a legitimate hotel. It also works as a base for exploring the area. Bring an extension cord and an HK-compatible power adapter. The outlets are a bit far from the bedside table.

The newly renovated rooms at The Kimberley Hotel are thoughtfully laid out, right down to the lighting and switch placement. My room was comfortable and convenient, and the washroom was modern and well maintained. The staff were consistently warm, professional, and helpful. The hotel is in a lively part of Hong Kong, close to metro stations, 7-Eleven stores, and even the Harbour View. I especially liked how convenient the location was, and the comfortable setting and easy access make it a good choice for families too. I’d happily choose The Kimberley Hotel again if I return to Hong Kong.
