Tung Nam Lou Art Hotel

The room smelled musty, and the toilet flush was broken, with water running constantly. There was no bath mat. At first, they provided only small 50x50cm towels, not proper bath towels. I had to ask, and they gave me just one. The charges at arrival were confusing too. They took a 1,000 HKD deposit plus another 115 HKD tax, even though Agoda usually includes taxes, and then refused to give me a receipt. At checkout, they charged a heavy fine for an ordinary towel, 150 HKD, and a small one, 50 HKD according to the picture, because of washable powder or toothpaste stains. They said special washing would cost as much as a new towel. I agreed to pay but asked to keep it since I was paying full replacement price, and they refused. It felt like a scam. The one good thing is the location, right by the Yau Ma Tei station exit. The rest was very disappointing. I definitely won’t return. There are better options in Hong Kong.

Be careful, they may charge unreasonable fees after you leave. We’d hiked dragons back the day before and used a towel to wipe the dust off our feet. Reception said that, along with makeup stains, was unreasonable. When we asked about the extra charges, the receptionist was very angry and verbally harassed us. They also admitted they charge 10% of guests after checkout.

I booked at the last minute and it turned out well. The location in northern Hong Kong is excellent, and for the price it’s good value. The standard room is really small, barely enough space for a suitcase, so it’s not ideal for a longer stay. The bathroom was nice and had strong water pressure. Soundproofing is weak, so noisy neighbors could be a problem.

The rooms are nicely decorated, though quite small. The location is excellent, there’s a nice lobby on the 5th floor, and they clean daily.
