Hilton Garden Inn Kunming Railway Station South

Breakfast and the lobby are both on the 50th floor. There was a wide selection, including the noodle station I’ve seen in pretty much every Hilton we’ve stayed at in China. Thanks to Ella, the restaurant supervisor, Rose, who helped in the public areas and with breakfast, and Leo at the front desk, who was especially quick to respond on WeChat. We also appreciated the welcome treats, fresh fruit and local flower cakes, a Kunming specialty. Laundry and the gym are on the 40th floor. We got a pleasant upgrade to a spacious room on a higher floor with great views. Housekeeping was excellent, cleaning daily and replenishing the amenities consistently. Service was prompt and attentive overall. The hotel shares its building with another property, and Hilton occupies the upper floors. Although the hotel is officially non-smoking, smoking is allowed in the lobby. Staff use strong fragrances to cover it up, and after several days the smell can feel overwhelming. We passed this feedback on to management. The location was convenient, about 15 minutes from the railway station. Despite the name Railroad Station South, it’s actually closer to Kunming Station than the South Station, which could be confusing. We mentioned this to Joy, the general manager, who said they were considering simplifying the name. The property is also associated with the Mujaba area, a former airport site, as the city continues to develop. We had a comfortable stay with warm, attentive service.
