Holiday Inn Kunming City Centre

Anthea and Eli Deng made our stay memorable with attentive, thoughtful help. Anthea shared her mobile number so she could help me order on Pinduoduo, then let me know when the parcel arrived. Eli helped with my parcels and brought bulky items right up to my room. We stayed in a suite and had a very pleasant experience overall. One thing affected our comfort: although the suite was non-smoking, cigarette smoke came in through the bathroom vents. Improving the ventilation or sealing those openings could help non-smoking guests.

The rooms are spacious, neat, and grand, and breakfast has a range of Chinese and Western choices, including a cheese corner. Being in the city centre also makes it easy to visit branded shopping malls like spring city.

When Thai Airways misplaced my luggage, Tina made a stressful situation much easier with her care and initiative. I had no China phone number, so she used her own phone to help me order essentials and contact Thai Airways. She also offered her personal number so the airline could reach her and promised to text me updates, even though I was only staying one night. Emily, her more senior colleague, stepped in patiently whenever Tina was unsure and helped keep things on track. They both made me smile during a difficult situation. Tina and Emily represent outstanding service, and I hope their dedication is recognised. Thank you for having such exceptional team members representing IHG.

The location is quite good, with receptionists who can offer travel guidance around the area. They were welcoming and reasonably service minded, though communication could be difficult: about a third couldn't speak English, while the rest were okay using a language app on a phone. The room was spacious, but the air conditioner didn't work well. Breakfast had quite a bit of variety, but there weren't enough staff to help with a small extra request the hotel could have provided. The hotel pool requires a swimming cap. The rest of the service was okay.
