Also known as " The Hump-Mulan Guest House " The beds were clean and comfortable, the showers roomy, and towels, toothbrushes, shampoo, and toothpaste came at no extra cost. The garden view room is quite a sight to wake up to. The place itself is beautiful, with flowers, fruit, delicious Chinese bayberry, and cute cats. I booked less than 12 hours before arriving, and Rosa was at the front desk to greet me with tea and answers to all my questions. She gave me a free map, translated directions, and wrote down important details in Chinese/Mandarin. She went above and beyond what I’d expect from friends, let alone someone I spent only three days with. She even arranged and bought my train ticket out of Kunming. An angel! Those were, without exaggeration, the best three days of my life so far. Being on my own and Kunming being beautiful were part of it, but I don’t take the place or the people for granted. I spent more time at and around the BnB/hostel than anywhere else in Kunming, and felt very emotional when I had to leave. If you’re lucky enough to meet Rosa’s wonderful daughter, ask " Want to play together? " and let her teach you flower decorations. She’s incredibly smart and resourceful, just what I’d expect from Rosa’a daughter. I can’t wait to come back and spend at least three weeks in Yunnan, with one week in the same place. My only regret is not budgeting enough time.
