The soft glutinous rice balls go so well with the gently sweet, slightly tangy soup. It's made with fermented rice wine and fragrant osmanthus, whose floral note balances the mellow warmth of the wine. Such a comforting traditional dessert.

There's historic architecture alongside modern shops and places to eat. We could shop and take as many pictures as we wanted.

You can find all kinds of things here, from top brands and aquariums to street food. It's worth wandering around for a few hours, though I couldn't spot an obvious outdoor cafe where I could sit down for a drink.

There are plenty of things to see and souvenirs to pick up on this lovely little walking street. It's touristy, but the street food is delightful. I really liked the tanghulu hawthorn berries, and fresh pork pastry is another must-try for me, those hot, crispy pork pastries. I also stopped at the famous "crossing bridge noodles" shop for the rice noodles served in gigantic stone bowls. A very good experience.

The old pharmacy was restored and is still operating as before, which made me so happy to see. It's a really cool building. The rest of this tourist area has also been sympathetically restored to keep the old town's character, and there's lots of food, coffee shops, and local delicacies to take home. A must-see part of Kunming.
