Shan Bala Hotel

We could leave our luggage at the hotel while we went to Everest, which was a big help. It’s under a ten-minute walk from both the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants on the street outside. The rooms were comfortable, the beds clean and relaxing, and the bathrooms worked well and were clean. There were lots of outlets and familiar amenities for international travelers, including a thermostat, hair dryer, flush toilet, and mini-bar. The mini-bar had a few...interesting additions. No-smoking rooms were available too. There’s a breakfast restaurant and a small cafe and wine bar in the lobby, with English menus. We stayed for several days while traveling to and from Mt. Everest and had an enjoyable time. Service was friendly and efficient. We did have occasional blackouts and late-night car alarms, though neither seemed to be the hotel’s fault.
