Getting our luggage all the way up the hill was a big help. The service was great, and the room had a lovely cultural feel. Everything was comfortable and clean, and the place sits at the top of Lion Hill with a breathtaking view.

The staff were so friendly that I was offered tea and other refreshments several times, and my luggage was carried up the steep path. I also ended up chatting with Chinese visitors on the terrace and in their rooms, sometimes in Chinese and sometimes in English. That warmth made the stay feel special. My room had a double bed, plus an adjoining room with a youth bed and play area, and a bathroom with a shower and toilet. Each room has a terrace with a sweeping view over the city and surrounding area. The hotel is in the upper part of the old town, on a hilltop. Since that part is pedestrianized and the way in is a narrow path, it can be hard to find. Still, it’s well worth the effort, and the spot is great for exploring the old town on foot. Expect plenty of walking, though, since the whole city is built on a hillside.
