The room was a good size, and the hotel is very new and well located. It’s about five minutes by taxi to Lijiang Old Town. Since the hotel is outside the old town, we could get a taxi right in front; if you stay inside, you have to walk out to find one. We could still hear people shutting doors outside at night.

The rooms are spacious and have plenty of outlets for charging devices. The location is great too, just a short walk from Old Town. Breakfast was decent, with a reasonable range of choices. This newly renovated hotel is comfortable, with modern, well-kept facilities. I also liked the free laundry room, which is handy for a longer stay, and the well-equipped gym. Most staff don’t speak English, but they were friendly and very helpful, always going out of their way to assist.

At Fairfield by Marriott Lijiang, the staff were friendly and very helpful. My charger didn’t fit the China plug style, and someone from the engineering team kindly helped me find one that worked. I can’t remember his name, but I really appreciate the help. It made my stay much easier.

The restaurant downstairs is excellent, with tasty food at reasonable prices, and the location is great, close to the ancient town. The hotel is brand new, so the facilities are in good shape, though some design choices are odd. The hand soap, for example, is fixed to a wall about two metres from the washbasin. It’s otherwise a typical Fairfield. People sometimes smoke inside the restaurant and staff don’t step in. Still, it’s much better than the old, poorly maintained Hilton Garden Inn next door.
