The hotpot is worth planning ahead for. Its broth is brewed for 6-8 hours, so you need to order it in advance, and the peanut cookie in the room was so, so good. On a clear day, there’s also a lovely view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The property feels a little smaller than other Aman hotels in Southeast Asia, I think, but it’s still quite big. I like how the local culture comes through in the design and little details, even the uniforms, while the hotel still has modern amenities and tech. Service is impeccable, with that Aman style where staff seem to be everywhere and nowhere at once, discreet but attentive. If you’re an Aman fan, it’s definitely worth a visit when you’re in Lijiang.

My father is a picky eater, so the food was a real highlight for us. Having stayed at other Aman properties, we can say Amandayan had the best food for his taste. We spent one night there during our 12-day family road trip through Yunnan, from Kunming to Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La, and it fully met our expectations. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the location made visiting Lijiang Ancient Town very convenient. Staff were consistently attentive and helpful. We truly enjoyed the stay and would highly recommend the property.

Breakfast had a great spread, with local dishes as well as more international options, and the hotel also organized enjoyable activities each day. Lijiang Ancient Town is only a short walk away since the property sits above the old town. We stayed four nights at Amandayan and had an amazing time. The place is beautiful and well maintained, and the staff were warm, friendly, and knew us by name. Service was top notch. We’d definitely stay here again if we’re in Lijiang 🙂

The setting on Lion Hill(Lion Hill） was peaceful and beautiful, with stunning views over the old town. My room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and I really appreciated the attention to detail. It made the stay very pleasant. I was impressed by the service too. Everyone was super nice, ready to help, and made sure I was comfortable throughout my stay. Great experience!

We asked for a room on the quieter side opposite the bars, since we were there in lowish season, though sound from the bars below can sometimes drift up. The hotel sits on a wooded slope above town, with birdsong around its clusters of attractive wood-framed buildings and little alleys, laid out like a local Naxi village. The onsite Chinese restaurant and cocktail bar were both great, and all the staff were excellent. We did have a short power cut on two nights in a row, but accepted a free massage and meal as compensation.
