Huatian Century Hotel

The building is old, parking nearby is difficult, and there’s no staff posted at the entrance. My bigger problem was the front desk. I’d booked online, but they couldn’t find my reservation at check-in. After I’d already gone up to the room, another staff member called to ask about it. Why ask after I was checked in? The desk staff seemed unsure what was going on. They couldn’t verify the ID I showed them, and when I tried to explain, they said they hadn’t handled it. Cross-strait relations have been open for a long time, so that response made no sense to me. The charges and payment options were also hard to understand. They knew I was a tourist but stuck to their own version of things and didn’t respond to what I needed. Later, after dinner, I told the front desk the room computer couldn’t get online. Maintenance eventually found that the whole building’s internet was down. The desk should have known. It seemed like there were problems with communication and reporting inside the hotel. There were plenty of room issues too. The bulb didn’t work, and when I touched it, it was badly oxidized. The bathroom sink had no drain plug, the lighting was dim and yellow, and the toilet was hard to flush. There was no proper electrical outlet, and the doorman had no internal security lock. The walk-in closet was difficult to open and close. The refrigerator wasn’t plugged in and smelled strange. The main vanity drawers were poorly designed, with wires running straight from the tabletop, and both bedside lamps shared one outlet. I couldn’t find a suitable outlet for the appliances guests might need. When I pointed out some missing or worn parts, the front desk asked if I wanted them sent over. I found that baffling and couldn’t keep the conversation going. These are just some observations and suggestions, and I hope the service provider uses them to improve. Businesses today sell more than products. The spirit, goals, and services they offer matter too.
