We were charged 10000 RMB on the first night at check-in. They were supposed to credit 2530 RMB back to my Visa, but that credit still hadn’t come through after three weeks, and no one had followed up. This happened on March/14. We’ve now left Luoyang, and what should have been a great stay turned into a very disappointing experience. The receptionist was very professional. Why did we have to pay 2530 RMB when we hadn’t used any extra services? There’s still been no explanation after three weeks. For a big international hotel, this shows very little international awareness. A deposit shouldn’t be charged at checkout, especially if it can’t be credited back.

We really enjoyed our stay. The welcome was heartwarming, and the front desk and breakfast area teams were fabulous. They helped us even when we hadn’t asked. Delia Zhang and Jacob on the club floor were exceptional too. You’ve got a great team, kudos!

The location is very handy. It’s next to Quanshun Shopping mall and close to a metro station, less than a five-minute walk away. From there it’s two stops to Luoyang Longmen railway station. The old city is farther away, so you can take the metro or didi, though I’d suggest didi for a quicker ride. There’s plenty of food nearby at the mall, and if you get a good room, the view over Kaiyuan lake is great. The actual hotel is across from the lake, along Zhanlan Road. Google Maps shows the wrong location, and I couldn’t correct it because China isn’t supported. I arrived at 230pm and was told my room wasn’t ready. I had a conference at 3, so I explained that, waited about ten minutes, and then the room was ready. They warned me some things, like slippers, might be missing and would be replenished in the evening, but that didn’t happen. The room had a full lake view. I was told the musical fountain only runs on special occasions. I liked the bathroom’s open layout, but the light switches were by the door, with none beside the bed, so I had to get up to turn them on or off. The facilities were decent, including a heated indoor pool and a small but self-sufficient gym. I stayed three days but was too tired from walking and mountain hikes to use them. John at the concierge deserves a mention for all the information he gave me, especially about getting to Shaolin temple and the Longmen Grottoes. He advised me, checked bus and train schedules, and showed me which apps to use. Not a bad stay. I’d rate it closer to 3.5 than 3.

Nice rooms, a great breakfast spread, and a convenient location. The team were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful from the moment we walked in throughout our visit. They made it a very pleasant stay, and we’d love to come back.

The staff were great and the hotel was excellent. It’s a fair way from the old town, though.
