Hilton Nanjing Riverside

The Chinese restaurant on the 13th floor was a highlight for me. A young woman there gave great service, and they had a few local dishes. Breakfast was fresh, with both Eastern and Western choices. Front desk service was okay. The room felt dated and had clearly seen better days. Noise was the main downside, with people slamming doors and talking loudly. The hotel is in a calm, pleasant area, though, and the river and skyline across town look fantastic from there.

We were traveling in a tour group, and they asked us to leave our passports for registration because it would take over two hours. In two weeks, this was the first hotel where that happened. Every floor smelled of cigarettes, even though smoking is now forbidden. Dinner service was painfully slow. It took half an hour to get two beers and a Coke, and the glass of wine arrived minutes later. There was only one waiter and one cook, and the cook was on the phone.

We had great river views from this lovely riverside hotel in Nanjing. The rooms and suites were nice, and the whole place was clean and tidy. Staff were courteous and welcoming. There's also a pleasant garden-side open-air restaurant and bar that stays open until midnight.

Of the Hilton hotels I've stayed at, this one gave me the worst service. Diamond status felt useless: management didn't put the customer first and used policy to deny Diamond benefits to my family. Even when I said I might escalate the matter, the response was careless. They don't seem to value membership tiers, and this behavior reflects badly on Hilton. Don't stay here. As a Hyatt and IHG member too, I can say there are many better options.
