Nanjing Xinjiekou Scholars Hotel

The food was good and the hospitality was very good too. The room size aside, this hotel deserves five stars...

We paid 290 yuan for six people and left completely full, so the value was great. I especially loved the meat mooncakes: crisp, soft pastry around a sweet and savory filling. I first got curious about Shuxiang Shijia's mooncakes after a neighbor gave me a box, and they were so good I had none left to share with my friends. The place itself felt roomy, with a nice old-fashioned atmosphere. The Aozao noodles were great too, and I finished the broth. The eggplant with chopped chili came in small pieces, all soaked in the braising sauce. It had a bit of heat and was very flavorful, with soft eggplant and crunchy millet sauce. It may be a little salty if you like milder flavors. The broccoli was fresh and tasty, and the beef tendon and brisket with tofu skin were tender, with the tofu skin soaking up the sauce. The stinky tofu with pork intestines was excellent as well; the intestines were thoroughly cleaned and tasted great. I'd definitely go back. So delicious!
