The Westin Nanjing

The room was clean and roomy, and the air conditioning worked well. Breakfast had a decent range, though it wasn’t premium. They left plenty of drinking water in the room, and I’ve no complaints for the price.

The lake and subway are nearby, and there’s a small mall in the same building. That’s about all I can say for this tired place. The rooms are small and old, and the whole building feels dated. Parking at the back entrance, which is the main way into the hotel, is oddly inconvenient. We asked for an upgrade and got a smaller room, though the slippers had a gold band, how cheap. There’s a horrible smell outside the lobby and smoke throughout, so anyone sensitive to secondhand smoke should avoid it. There are better options. Not recommended.

The hotel is attached to a modern mall and has a great spot near the lake. The front desk staff spoke very limited English, and the breakfast buffet was adequate for a westerner. It’s a fairly standard Westin, but I’d avoid dinner. I was there after the Trump tariffs were imposed and got the impression business was seriously down.

The beds, showers, and Nespresso machines made the slightly dated rooms very comfortable. The blackout curtains don’t block enough light, though, so the rooms get bright early, and nearby construction was noisy from 6am. The lounge is pleasant, with great views from the higher floors. Breakfast seemed more aimed at locals. Staff were professional and pleasant. It’s well placed for exploring Nanjing, beside the lake and one of the longest surviving stretches of city wall, with good routes for running outside. A pleasant stay overall, and I’d recommend it.
