The location and service fell short of the upkeep I expected. I booked two rooms for one night at the Marriott Ningbo, reserving a high-floor river-view room well ahead of time. The view could have been lovely, but the windows were so dirty it was hard to enjoy it or take photos. Inside, the rooms felt small, the furniture was visibly worn, and there were greasy fingerprints on both sides of the door. The building and rooms seemed dated and needed better maintenance. I hope cleanliness and upkeep improve to meet the Marriott standard.

I travel often and am a Titanic member of Marriott, so I was very disappointed by what this hotel called “Marriott” service. Both rooms we checked into smelled musty and old. The WiFi sign-in page wasn’t like the one at other Marriot hotels, and we had to call the front desk to get the password. The room and service felt more like a local three-star hotel. The VIP lounge had no soft drinks at 9:30pm, just tea and coffee. I can’t see why it’s ranked as a “Marriott,” and I wouldn’t stay here again.

The breakfast buffet has a generous mix of Chinese and international food, and there are several restaurants nearby. It’s in Ningbo’s old downtown, and the hotel is clean despite showing its age in places. Rooms are roomy and comfortable, service is attentive, and speaking English with the staff was no trouble at all. A good value for the money, with a lot to like.

Getting to some five-star restaurants and high-end shops on foot is easy. The buffet breakfast has a huge range, almost like one in Las Vegas. The room was spacious and well equipped, and the staff were warm and welcoming. A wonderful hotel.

Shirley at the Executive Lounge on the 39th Floor was especially kind and attentive, and made us feel welcome. The service from the whole staff was amazing. On service alone, this hotel deserves five stars.
