Shangri-La Ningbo

We spent four nights at the Shangri-La Ningbo with our two kids while in town for business, and the location, comfort, and cleanliness were all good. The hotel is beautifully kept, with lovely river views that we enjoyed from the window in the evenings. Check-in was mostly smooth, though exchanging USD for CNY took some polite persistence. Staff were reluctant to accept our bills because of small tears, which was frustrating, but they eventually agreed to the exchange. Having two connecting rooms worked really well for our family and gave us much-needed space. The connecting door was locked when we arrived, though, and it took more effort than it should have to get it opened. The front desk didn't understand our phone request or follow up with someone who spoke better English. We eventually found a housekeeping team member in the hallway, explained with gestures, and they kindly found someone to unlock it. The breakfast buffet had lots of options, along with baby chairs and child-friendly cutlery. The food was very good, though service was minimal. Even though we arrived with an infant, nobody offered to help set up the high chair. Room service was much better: prompt, professional, and delicious. Staff in general were warm and eager to help, especially the front door team, but limited English across the hotel made communication difficult at times. We understand language support varies by region, but expected more from a top-tier international brand like Shangri-La. We love staying with the brand as Shangri-La Circle members and would consider coming back to Ningbo. Still, this stay fell short of the stellar experiences we've had at other Shangri-La properties. Better language support and more consistent service would make a difference. It was a solid, pleasant stay, but not a standout.
