I stayed in the inner courtyard this time, and I’d definitely come back when I’m in Qingdao again. Returning to my hometown, I got to stay in a big old house. Each morning I’d open the door and listen to church bells in the distance, looking out at a building that has seen a century of modern history. Its Chinese and Western styles together give the place a feeling of being out of time.
