DoubleTree by Hilton Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis

The staff generally didn't speak English, but they did their best to help, and that counts for a lot to me. I had an Executive Room on the 10th floor overlooking the bay. The hotel and room are showing their age, though nothing especially stands out. The executive lounge was under renovation, and the replacement "Happy Hour" was much better than I'd expect at a DoubleTree. I doubt that will last once the lounge opens again. Breakfast was decent but the same each day. Good value for a quiet stay away from Qingdao's center, though it's quite a way from the Beer Museum and other attractions.

We chose this hotel for five nights because it worked well for getting to the golf courses. The room was spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed. Its bathroom layout made it practical for two people to use the shower and basin at once. At night, the neat rows of buildings outside looked pretty and peaceful. Breakfast had plenty of cooked dishes, noodles, porridge, pastries, fruit, salad, and cereal. Oddly, staff controlled the forks and knives, so guests had to ask for them.

The grounds are lovely for a walk, and there's a long trail around the island. The buffet restaurant was really nice too. The wifi, though, is awful: slow speeds and frequent dropouts, especially when using a VPN to reach US pages blocked in China.
