Le Meridien Qingdao

We were very comfortable here during our nearly two-week family stay. The hotel is family-friendly, with shopping malls, restaurants, and coffee shops all within walking distance. Staff were friendly, and we enjoyed the breakfast buffet's food choices, great coffee, and desserts. The amenities were convenient too. Cleanliness could have been better, especially for the prices. Aside from that, we had a pleasant visit and would stay at the Meridien Qingdao again if we return.

There was no properly working A/C in any of the rooms. I had to switch rooms three times, and none would get below 75°F (23°), with the temperature closer to 77°F all night. When I complained, they tried to make me feel like I was asking for it to be freezing cold. Google says “room temperature” is 69-70°. They also said they turn down the A/C in summer to save money. For a “5 star hotel,” that's unacceptable. If you want to sleep in a gym steam room, this is the place.

I checked in late and the room reeked of cigarettes. They moved me after I found cigarette butts under the bed, but there were dead cockroaches under the bed in the next room. I checked out early and went to another hotel after only a few hours there. When I asked for a refund, they told me to kick rocks. This is NOT a 5 star hotel, just a motel 6 dressed up to look fancy.

A really disappointing stay. My husband and I were treated with awful disrespect by most of the employees. In several rooms around the property, I heard them making jokes about us. We're a gay couple, and it was clearly some pretty severe homophobia.
