The atmosphere here is quiet, relaxing, and pleasant, and the restaurant is a nice place for a quiet beer in the evening. You can also step out to the rooftop garden. I stayed three nights in November 2014, taking a break from Beijing before my Trans-Siberian trip back to the UK. It’s in an old observatory, so the hilltop setting gives it a distinctive feel. My room faced south toward the woods, with morning sun coming through the window. The rooms were comfortable, and the reception and restaurant staff were friendly. The food was excellent and good value. I especially recommend the German muesli breakfast. I've tried to recreate it at home, but food just tastes better when you’re traveling! One of the best places I've stayed.

We spent ages trying to find this place, but it was worth the effort. A friend sent us there for a relaxed dinner. We walked dark streets and alleys for about an hour, asking random Chinese people for directions and getting pointed in different directions. Then we climbed a rather spooky spiral staircase, where a huge dog seemed ready to eat us. At the top was a warmly lit, open-air café and bar overlooking the city. The staff were friendly and spoke English we could understand, and they were even playing American country music. Our all-day breakfast came with hash browns, German sausage, toast, and fruit juice, filling the place with a great smell. I’d highly recommend it as a restaurant, café, and bar. I haven’t stayed in the hostel, but I can imagine it would be great.

The rooftop café is a lovely spot for brunch if you prefer a relaxed itinerary. The place has a nice atmosphere, and the hostel's two dogs and cat are all adorable!

The hostel has a great atmosphere and a lovely view from its spot on top of the mountain. Going up and down the mountain each time does take a while, though.
