I tried a bunch of local food on West Street, including ginger duck, yam biscuits, fried oysters and desserts. There are plenty of Minnan dishes around, and I also found handmade goods beside KaiYuan temple. I took home some Wulong tea and homemade biscuits.

The area is bigger than it looks, and walking around can get tiring, but the shuttle bus is cheap. Just tell the driver where you’re headed. When I visited in Oct 2025, a couple of weeks ago, some renovations were underway, with the streets and old buildings being maintained and preserved. It’s a lively place for walking and shopping, with lots of young, trendy shoppers, much like other big-city streets. I didn’t see any Hanfu cosplayers. Go during the day if you want pictures of the distinctive architecture, which looks quite different from the shopping streets in Xiamen.
