I was at Howard Johnson for five days as a chaperone on a school trip. The hotel was beautiful, clean, and well maintained, but what stood out most was how kind and helpful the staff were. Even as a demanding, high-maintenance guest, I never got attitude, just willing help. At the last minute, I left my iPhone behind and had to go to Shanghai without it. I tracked it to the hotel, but had run out of time. I don't speak Mandarin, and trying to reach the hotel by phone or email was a struggle. Then Nancy, one of the receptionists, called my home phone. Her English was almost perfect, and she spent three hours figuring out how to get the phone back to Shanghai. We used the hotel phone, my home phone, and my spouse's contact, going back and forth through a complicated situation. I couldn't explain my address in Mandarin, and she could have passed the problem to our tour guide, who wasn't reachable at the time. Instead, she came up with a couple of clever ideas and jumped in to help right away. I'm so grateful for that.

The breakfast buffet was very good, and I enjoyed the pool, the fish pond where they eat dead skin, and the spa. The hotel itself was nice, but there weren't many English-speaking staff. They couldn't help me find a USB power adapter, and I couldn't exchange my money because my bills were old.

A top resort close to Sanya's beach, set in a tropical garden. The rooms are clean and pleasant, with a terrace and views of the ocean and garden. Breakfast is good, including for European guests.

We really enjoyed our mid-October 2025 stay. The hotel has lovely, spacious grounds, and our room was nice and cleaned carefully every day. They changed the bed linen every three days. Toiletries and toothbrushes were provided in the bathroom, along with tea, coffee, and water that was topped up daily. There’s a good supermarket nearby, and lots of pebbles. Toward the end of the vacation we found a cafe run by a Russian-speaking Chinese man named Vanya. The servings are generous and the food is tasty. Definitely try the beef dumplings. You can also book a tour through him for less than the hotel charges. To find the cafe, walk from the hotel toward the sea and turn left just before reaching it. Keep going to the traffic light, turn left, and it’s around the third cafe. The sign says “Vanya's: 5 minutes to the sea.” One downside: something bit me at the beach. The bites itch like mosquito bites and are taking a long time to heal. Apart from that, everything was great, and I highly recommend the hotel.
