The only real letdown was the meager breakfast, with almost nothing to eat. Otherwise, we were satisfied: the staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean, new, and well kept. There's a Russian-speaking guide on the ground floor, and they provide black and green tea. You only get one room card; an extra one requires a refundable 50 yuan deposit.

We spent a week at the New City Hotel in Hainan and absolutely loved it. The place is beautiful, well maintained, and has a pleasant feel, but the staff are its best part. Everyone was kind, lovely, and always ready to help. A big thank you for the hospitality. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Hainan.

The breakfast is why I'm taking off a star. It was all Chinese food, mostly noodles and things we couldn't identify, with practically no European options and no seafood apart from fish now and then. We mostly ended up eating French fries. Otherwise, this is a very good hotel. Even though some sites call it three-star, everything was clean and cozy. The beds were luxurious and comfortable, with orthopedic mattresses and lovely linens. The glass toilet was a fun idea, and you can pull the curtain closed if you want. Our windows faced the road, but the soundproofing worked so well we couldn't hear it. We kept the air conditioning on and didn't need to open the windows. The location is great too, with the beach, shopping centres, cafes, and ATMs all within walking distance.

Lena, the hotel guide, was especially warm and helpful, always available when we needed her. The rest of the staff were attentive too, and we're very grateful to them. We arrived on January 17th and stayed a week. We were very pleased with the hotel. The room was cleaned daily, and they brought anything that was missing. Breakfast options varied and tasted better to us, though that's a matter of taste. When we travel to a new country, we like learning about it, so we were ready to eat what was offered.
