The room was dated, and there was mold in the shower. I’m not sure I’d stay here next time. I was also surprised that, when I asked for a razor, the concierge told me to buy one from a vending machine. I’d expect that basic toiletry to be provided at a Marriott Courtyard. The front desk experience was poor from the start. Staff didn’t smile or make us feel welcome, and when we asked to extend our stay, they simply told us to do it on the app. Nobody mentioned the free shuttle to selected MTR stations at check-in. No one greeted us or opened the lobby doors, and a nearby concierge in uniform pretended not to see us struggling with our luggage. The room service manager called impolitely about cleaning the room the day after we arrived, even though we’d slept in because of jetlag. That didn’t feel like guest service at all.

The front desk was the biggest disappointment. On checkout day they couldn’t give me the receipt I needed, even though I explained what it had to include. They promised to email it, sent the wrong version, then got it wrong again after I clarified. After my third and fourth emails, they stopped replying. It felt very unprofessional. I was there for about three weeks on business, and the experience didn’t match what I expect from a Marriott. The room was large, with a bathtub and walk-in shower, housekeeping kept both clean, the gym was adequately equipped, and breakfast was great. The lounge was tiny for the number of people with access, so you had to get there 30 to 60 minutes before happy hour started. It was also unpleasant that food service ended so early, though the lounge staff did a great job.

The staff were friendly and professional, and my room was spacious and clean. The free shuttle goes to several places, including the popular Victoria Harbor. There are Chinese restaurants nearby, a McDonald next door, and groceries within a block. It also costs much less than other Marriot brand hotels near the harbor. I was very happy with my stay.

The hotel is getting old, and I hope they remodel before guests start choosing newer places. In room 183x, the refrigerator overheated, and the TV needs an upgrade. There’s been no HBO since last year, and now you have to borrow a UBS cable from housekeeping. It can also be hard to get a room with good neighbors. This time, the couple next door were nosy and fought a lot. I stay at this Courtyard whenever I visit HK on my own. As a Marriott Bovoy member, I got a warm check-in welcome from Kiki and good phone service from Helen and Vicky. The welcome cookies arrived on my last night this time, though, so they were more like farewell cookies. Checkout could move faster. Some guests take a long time sorting out split bills and card credit limits. At some Marriott hotels, they deliver the invoice the night before, which speeds things up.
