Noise was the main problem, and it made this the worst hotel experience I’ve had. The sound insulation is extremely poor, so you hear other guests through the thin walls. One guest shouted from about 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM, then again around 6:00 in the morning. As the video shows, there was coughing, screaming, and shouting. I couldn’t sleep, and the voice honestly made me feel unsafe because it didn’t sound like a normal person. I eventually moved to another international hotel because of the lost sleep and safety concerns. The staff were genuinely kind and helpful, the location is great, and the room on the 6th floor was clean, but noise control and the building quality are serious drawbacks. My first room on the 5th floor had poor mobile signal and cleanliness issues; the 6th floor was much better. The photo is from the 6th floor. The hotel is just a minute’s walk from Yuyuan Garden.

The room was big and the location amazing, so it was good value for money. Check-in took an hour, though, because of an issue with the guests before us.

The rooms are basic and not very spacious, and there’s no bidet in the toilets. The Bund is within walking distance, about 800 meters away. Watch out if you’re arriving in the rain: there’s no main road to the hotel entrance, so you have to walk 150 meters outdoors from the drop-off point.

The beds and bedding were very comfortable, and the price felt fair for such a good location. Some of the stylish fittings are starting to look worn. The garden terraces don’t look anything like the photos now.

It wasn’t very clean or nice. There’s no bathroom, just a shower and sink in the room. You can hear everything from the hall, and even someone showering. Really nice to hear that at 00:30 for about 15 minutes! 😤 There isn’t a proper window to let in fresh air.
