It’s a handy apartment for one person, with a washing machine, cable TV, internet and basic kitchen utensils. The area is good, though the metro takes about a 15-minute walk to reach. Sound carries through the walls pretty easily, so the separation between apartments isn’t great.

Even after I left the country, they kept charging my account for another six months. They said they had reduced the electricity and cleaning charges, but the amount stayed exactly the same. BaseLiving also offered no help getting my clothes and other belongings sent abroad, while expecting me to keep paying even though no foreigners were left and the building was completely empty. I wouldn’t trust them if you’re a foreigner planning to live in China.
