Chunshenjiang Hotel

The breakfast was pretty good, Chinese style, and our clean room had almost no outside noise. For a low price, the room was good and the location was premium. Getting around was easy: People's Park and East Nanjing Rd. stations are about a five-minute walk, near "Shanghai no. 1 pharmacy" and "Shanghai fashion store". A supermarket is across the street, with an alldays around the corner for snacks. Although it's close to Nanjing Road, the room stayed quiet. We mostly heard tourist train bells and some cars during the day, and distant traffic at night. Noise picked up around seven in the morning. Staff could manage simple English conversations, and when that wasn't enough they used a translation app on their phones. Payment was by card or cash, though our mastercard didn't work. They let us check in and leave our bags while we went to an ATM. When our bank passes wouldn't let us withdraw enough for the whole stay because of daily limits, the staff let us pay half at check-in and the rest the next day, when the cards worked again. I'd absolutely stay here again.

The furniture met quality standards and hygiene was fine, but the room was extremely small. Breakfast was the same every morning. The worst part was roofing work at night, which kept guests from sleeping. That's especially unsuitable when you're on a business trip with meetings. The hotel wouldn't refund us for the disturbance.

The room was tidy and clean, and they changed the towels every day. For the rate and the spot, it felt worth every penny. If you're after budget accommodation around the nanjing area, this place should be high on your list. It's right in the middle of nanjing road and within walking distance of peoples square.

I had a 30-hour flight stopover and wanted to see as much as I could, fast. My phone was gone and I had no map, but a 20-minute walk straight one way got me to The Bund, and walking straight the other way led to People's Park. That was really handy. The rooms are basic and tiny, maybe even dingy, but the location and price made up for it. Taxis were easy to get, and there were lots of ATMs just around the corner.
