Courtyard By Marriott Shanghai Changfeng Park

My wife and I stayed for three nights to be near the hospital, and as Titanium Elite members we were very happy with the hotel. The Executive Lounge was lovely, with good quality food at happy hour, and its staff were very attentive. Our room was very nice, the staff throughout were extremely helpful, and the hotel has beautiful decor inside and out in a very nice area. We have zero complaints.

It’s handy for getting to Shanghai’s western outskirts, but the rooms are on the small side. Even an executive room was smaller than a standard room at Marriott. The lounge closes at 9pm. I’d pick a Marriott instead. This might work like an inn for a very short business trip.

The photos online look good, but the place is run down, with holes in the roof and nowhere to get a drink or go to a bar except the restaurant on the second floor. The bigger problem was that I couldn’t control the AC. I woke up sweating at 3am or 4am two nights in a row. The front desk wasn’t much help, and I checked out at 4am on the second day and went straight to another Marriott. Only then did the front desk explain that AC is controlled centrally, with a set range of 22-26C, or 72F to 78F. To get a room at 70F, for example, you have to call and hope they’ll change it, and that it stays that way overnight. I’m a Gold member and usually stay with Marriott when I travel, but this was the worst Marriott I’ve experienced. I don’t know how it qualified as one. Avoid it like the plague. Better nearby options are Le MERIDIEN in Minhang or Courtyard in Hongqiao, where I’ve stayed at both.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Getting here by public transport means a bit of a walk, but the location is fine if you come by taxi or car.
