We picked this hotel for an early flight and the location made the morning easy. From the South Building, our room looked across at the airport, and there’s a link bridge from Terminal 1 straight to the hotel lift, so we didn’t have to go outside. With our flight leaving at 10 a.m., we could sleep in and start getting ready around 8. The room was clean and the facilities seemed new. It had hot water, a fridge and toiletries. Our first fridge didn’t work, but staff quickly moved us to another room. They were attentive and sorted it out efficiently. We also needed reception’s help to get online because Wi-Fi required a verification code sent to a Chinese phone number, and we didn’t have a Chinese SIM or number. The air conditioning wasn’t quite right. We set it to 23°C, but the meter showed about 25°C. Since it was around 18°C outside, the room stayed comfortable, though I can imagine it getting stuffy in warmer weather or on a longer stay. We didn’t book breakfast ahead; buying it that day seemed reasonably priced. There’s a restaurant in the hotel, plus plenty of places to eat at the airport and in nearby buildings. A handy choice for an airport transit.

The room was enough for a 12-hour layover, and the location close to the airport worked well. Service was okay, and I could get some rest before my flight. Still, the stay was below average, and I wouldn’t book it again unless I had to. The A/C barely did anything, with heat constantly coming from somewhere. It got cooler after midnight, but I wouldn’t count on that. Better air conditioning or a better air system would make a big difference. For the price, it did the basic job of giving me a place to sleep near the airport. I’d recommend the location, though I’d also suggest looking for a better hotel if you can.

Being between the terminals and near the Maglev station is the main reason to stay here, especially for an early flight. That’s about the only advantage I found. The room felt hot and stuffy even with the temperature set to “05 degrees” and the fan at full speed. Wi-Fi never worked for us. The room connection needed an SMS code we couldn’t receive; reception suggested Airport6, but that network vanished right after I connected. Breakfast cost 30 RMB, and it was so bland that hospital food would seem like a 3-star Michelin meal by comparison. At that price, though, I can’t complain too much. I also found food crumbs and quite a few long hairs near the bin, so cleanliness could be better. I overheard reception say the South Building rooms are nicer but more expensive. They were the same price when I booked through an OTA, and the South Building did look better, so that’s the one I chose.

I stayed the night of August 24, 2025, from 11:30 p.m. until 7 a.m. and slept well. I could see planes and a major road from the room, but didn’t hear anything. The soundproofing seemed excellent, though it might be noisier during the day. Earplugs were provided, but I didn’t need them. This is a transit hotel, not a place for a leisure stay, so don’t expect things like a sauna, hammam or bar. For a stopover, it had what I needed: a comfortable bed, good shower, drinking water, tea and a hair dryer. Reception is open 24/7. The staff were helpful, although their English wasn’t always perfect. Breakfast was excellent for 30 RMB, with Chinese and Western choices and lots of options. I only had the items shown in my photo. Finding the hotel can be tricky because the signs are poor. They say “Airport Hotel,” not “Dazhong Airport Hotel.” The central elevator is the main thing to look for. It’s right between Terminals 1 and 2, near the middle of the airport, which is great when you have a flight to catch. Look for Middle Wuzhou Path if you get lost. If you’re coming to visit the city, this isn’t the right hotel.

Once we found the place, the location was incredibly convenient. It’s between the Maglev and metro, a short walk from the second floor of Terminal 2. Follow the “airport hotel” signs. I only found it because of another Google Maps review. We were allowed to check in at 10:00 instead of 14:00 on the first day, with no extra charge or deposit. That was a lifesaver after our 12-hour flight landed at 07:30. The staff were polite and happy to help. The rooms looked modern and were clean. The A/C barely worked, which is why I gave four stars. In August, that’s a real problem. At busy times, the shower also took a while to get warm. For getting into Shanghai, take the Maglev. The metro takes a long time.
