Fairmont Peace Hotel

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but booked a table in the lounge to see the Old Jazz Band. Listening to the band and the beautiful singer perform old English and Chinese songs was fabulous. The cocktails were excellent, and our waiter Kevin spoke English well and went above and beyond. We couldn’t have asked for better service. It’s a must-do activity while in Shanghai.

The Jazz Bar was a highlight, with its legendary band whose combined age is 480 years creating a wonderfully nostalgic mood. We missed the museum tour this time, but we’ll be back for the rooftop bar and what must be the city’s best views as the Bund lights up at night. The Peace Hotel felt like stepping into a vintage movie. In the stunning Art Deco lobby, the doormen opened doors before we reached them and our bags were whisked away as soon as we came in. Since this was our fifth combined visit to Shanghai, the team kindly upgraded our room. There was a small delay getting the keys ready, but the staff followed up with a plate of exquisite chocolates delivered to our room. The room and bathroom were a dream for anyone who loves vintage Art Deco. After a long journey, the espresso, tea, and replenished fruit bowl were very welcome, and they even provided proper cutlery. Staff were attentive without intruding, and the nightly turndown was a thoughtful touch. The pool was quiet and serene, though having two lifeguards just for me felt a bit like a personal security detail. The spa reception and gift shop were also pleasant to browse.

I grew up in Shanghai, and the Fairmont Peace Hotel has always represented elegance and heritage to me. Celebrating my parents’ golden wedding anniversary there this week made for an unforgettable staycation. The service was excellent, especially the lounge team, who were warm and attentive. I’m grateful to the staff for helping create such wonderful memories. We’ll definitely be back!

We spent 6 nights here in late december and loved it. The location was 10/10, housekeeping was impeccable, and the staff were kind and accommodating. Some staff spoke English and were especially helpful, and everyone was lovely with our toddlers. I even saw them turn away a couple who wanted to stay when the hotel was fully booked for the whole week, and they handled it very nicely. Breakfast could have been better, but honestly, I can’t think of another bad thing to say. I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting shanghai.
