The Manhattan Bund Business Hotel is a modest mid-range place, but its architecture is very nice. Staying there gives you some sense of what a premium hotel might have been like in the 1900’s, when the Bund was bustling during Shanghai’s treaty-port era. Its history is a pleasure in itself, and it’s very centrally located for the Bund and Central Shanghai.

The breakfast buffet was plentiful and tasty, with a Chinese and Western mix. From the hotel you can walk to the Bund for the night views, browse or eat on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, and reach People's Park with a short stroll. Buses and subways are close in every direction, so getting around is easy. It’s right next to the Peace Hotel on Dianchi Road, an excellent location close to the Bund and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. The Shanghai-style decor is striking, and historical city paintings cover every floor, giving it a museum feel. Each room has its own design and furnishings. On my first stay I was so taken with the layout that I specifically asked for a deluxe room next time. That corner room wasn’t as good as the special offer room I’d had before. It seems room quality depends more on location and luck than price.

Its location is the best part, just steps from the Bund and Nanjing Road. Walk about 200 meters and you’re on the Huangpu River banks, with one of the best views of Pudong. The Manhattan Business Hotel itself is modern, spacious, and beautiful.
