The Club Deluxe River Room worked well for me, especially with the lounge access included in the price. I stayed two nights in room 6515 on the 65th floor, with an excellent view of the pearl tower and the bund. The room looked old and not especially luxurious for a 5-star hotel, but it was okay. Before check-in, I'd asked for a non-smoking room without any smell and for air purifier cleaning, and there was no cigarette smell. The lounge on the 83rd floor was great, with free breakfast and dinner, including smoked salmon. The location was convenient too. I walked to Shanghai Ocean Aquarium and the pearl tower, then in the evening took the tram through The Bund Sightseeing Tunnel under the river to the bund. It's not Shanghai's best hotel, but the panoramic room view and lounge made it a good stay for me. I'd recommend this Club Deluxe River Room.

The building and its interior atrium are stunning, and the room was spacious and clean. We also liked the Club Lounge, especially the Bund and Pearl Tower views during evening drinks. The self-serve cocktails were a fun surprise. Breakfast was good too. Even though we got an upgrade, the room smelled strongly of cigarettes and felt heavily smoked in, which made it uncomfortable. The furniture and equipment seemed dated, and the service didn't meet luxury hotel expectations: English communication was limited, nobody helped with luggage, and no one escorted us to the room. The architecture is impressive, but the stay felt overpriced. I'd pick another hotel next time.

For our three-night booking, the first impression was a great hotel in a strategic location. Then, on two days in a row, an unfamiliar man who wasn't a room cleaner suddenly opened our room door without permission. My daughter was inside while I was away. As soon as he saw someone, he apologized and left, but it happened on both days. I reported it to the front desk. They apologized, offered a fruit basket as compensation, which I immediately refused, and said they'd check the CCTV, but gave no solution. It doesn't feel safe to stay here if people can enter guest rooms without permission and could take valuables. Keep an eye on your belongings. (Stayed in Dec 2025)

It's an easy walk to the subway, with connections all over, and the hotel and parking garage have high security standards. The location is very nice. Still, there are things to improve compared with other Grand Hyatts. My room keys failed three times, rooms are a bit noisy and I could hear neighbors talking in the evening. Breakfast had lots of choice, but the coffee bar was slow and inefficient.

The room really let the stay down. It was old, poorly maintained, smelled unpleasant, and had an extremely uncomfortable bed. After one night my back was sore. Breakfast also felt neglected: not enough staff to help, so it was basically self-serve unless you already knew where things were. Only two people worked the coffee and tea bar, and the coffee came from automatic machines. For a hotel of this caliber, I expected a trained barista making proper espresso. Getting help was difficult from the start. The porters at the entrance didn't speak English, and the entrance felt dull and unwelcoming. Check-in was on the 54th floor, where staff also had limited English and showed little courtesy or professionalism. From poor communication and dated rooms to the weak service and amenities, the whole stay was a major letdown for a world-class hotel. I wouldn't recommend Grand Hyatt Shanghai to anyone expecting a true five-star standard.
