Hao-Du Hotel

The rooms are on the small side, but the place was clean and quiet, so I slept well. There are coffee and fruit markets all around, and I’d stay here again. I wasn’t keen on the free breakfast, though. The bakery across the street had much nicer warm dumplings.

The neighborhood is lively and fun to explore, with crowds of Chinese people riding electric mopeds. People's Square and Yu garden are within walking distance, and the metro is close by. We found the double rooms and single room clean and comfortable, with large, comfy beds. Breakfast was okay to good, a small buffet in the simple hotel cantina with Chinese dishes like steamed buns, noodles, and sweet potatoes. We only stayed two nights, but everyone was happy and we’d gladly return to Hao Du Hotel for a convenient, inexpensive stay in Shanghai.

The room was kept clean and the price was good, though for a couple of days the coffee cups were missed during cleaning. Getting around was easy: the metro is just minutes away and can reach the airport in under 40 minutes. Yu Park, the Bund, and the main pedestrian shopping street are all an easy walk. There are lots of little shops nearby, including a fruit shop. From our room you can see the closest Metro and a Bank of China branch with ATMs that accept international bank cards. The rooms are the main drawback, since even the standard ones are small. Still, it’s a clean, economical hotel, close to a metro station and well placed for getting to Shanghai attractions.
