I’m not sure what the fuss is about. I went on a Sunday in mid-morning, and the place was empty, even the disappointing fountain. People had told me it was amazing and so busy you could barely move, but I didn’t see that. I even had to ask Google whether this was it.

There’s plenty to browse here in Shanghai, from shopping malls to anime stores and pop-ups. It’s a pretty cool area to walk around. I love how far ahead China feels compared with every other country. I’ll definitely come back sometime.

People's Square has a long history as a racetrack and now serves as a central transport hub in Shanghai’s Huangpu District. It brings together administrative, cultural, commercial, and transportation roles, with major landmarks including the Shanghai Museum and Grand Theatre, along with extensive shopping.

Food vendors are everywhere, and the baked scallion pancakes were delicious. I loved them.

There’s plenty here to fill 2-4 hours, so have fun exploring. This large, lively square is ringed by big malls selling clothes, toys, shoes, and sports goods, along with museums and other cultural landmarks. Small events add to the energy, and there are eateries for all sorts of cuisines, plus lots of snack and gift shops. It can get crowded, so keep kids close to avoid losing them. In the evening, neon lights and music make the place feel glitzy and add to its charm. Toilets are available inside the mall buildings, mostly on the second floor, and there’s also a large public toilet. The square is easy to reach by subway train or taxi, and neither is costly. It’s a shopping paradise.
