The staff were a real plus. The manager and housekeeping team were friendly and helpful, and the location made it easy to reach attractions around this part of Shanghai. Jing-An Temple is right across the street, the subway is a block away, and there are restaurants and shopping malls nearby. Having a full-size kitchen and laundry in the room was handy for families. The building itself needs a lot of attention. Paint is peeling and there are plenty of water-damaged areas on the walls. I didn't see mold, but wouldn't be surprised if there were some. It definitely wouldn't meet US standards. Although smoking is prohibited, the hallway smelled strongly of cigarettes, and sometimes the room did too when I forgot to leave the AC on. It works well for a few nights if you want to see local sights. The place seems set up for long stays, but given the building's condition, I don't think it's healthy to stay more than a couple of days.

The furniture inside the rooms was probably the best part, and the interior looked decent. The beds, though, were HARD, and the bathroom fixtures need replacing so they work better. The kitchen was useful, as was the washer-dryer, but that machine could use some instructions. The cleaning staff were very good. The building looks shabby and the rooms smell stale. There's no real front desk, so it doesn't feel like the kind of hotel most people are used to.

Our double room was comfortable for four nights and had all the facilities we needed. The staff spoke good English, too. JingAn Temple and the metro stations for lines 2 and 7 are only about a three-minute walk away, which made the location wonderful. Everything was perfect, apart from the TV, which has no English channels.

Clean, good value, and well located by the train station, Jing'an Temple, restaurants, and a mall. The staff are kind, though they don't speak English.
