We had split our time in Shanghai between two hotels, one near Nanjing Rd in the middle of town and this one for our last stay before leaving. At first I wasn't sure about choosing it because it seemed far from downtown. Once we arrived, though, Intercontinental lived up to its quality. It was our best stay and a great way to end the trip. The hotel is quiet and comfortable, a relaxing retreat from city life. The facilities are excellent, and once we had the indoor pool to ourselves, with a lifeguard there the whole time. The design is lovely, from the flower-petal details to the lobby and architecture. Our room felt spacious and modern, with plenty of technology, including curtains that open and close automatically. We could watch both sunrise and sunset from our balcony, and we had two balconies! The staff made sure we were well looked after. They upgraded our room, gave us complimentary drinks and spa vouchers that we didn't use, and provided a child-sized bathrobe and slippers for our little girl. The breakfast buffet was the best we've had, with an incredible range and many stations. There are several restaurants in the hotel if you don't want to go out. The nearest train station is quite far, about an eight-minute Didi ride, and a large shopping mall is about a five-minute drive away. Even so, I'd recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a different side of Shanghai and a place to unwind.
